ARGENTINA
Argentina is the eighth-largest country in the world, and features correspondingly larger-than-life scenery. From Tierra del Fuego, where the Andes hit the sea, to the dramatic mountains of Patagonia, to the glaciers of Perito Morena and Los Glaciares National Park, to the arid steppes east of the Andes, Argentina gave us some amazing sights — perched above the Vespignani Glacier with the lake below and the glacier to your left; looking down Lago del Desierto to Monte Fitz Roy wreathed in sunset clouds; an awesome 15-mile hike to Laguna de los Tres — these are settings where enjoying a simple granola bar is equal in value to an elaborate gourmet dinner.
Just like in Pakistan the previous September I had bad guitar luck — I left my Martin Backpacker guitar in the Uber going to the Buenos Aires airport as we were leaving the country, and I thought would be the last I heard of it. But I was able to reach the Uber driver and Pato — our host on Lago del Desierto — agreed to buy it, so I know one of my guitars now has a new home in a lovely lodge in Patagonia. If you visit Aguas Arriba, north of El Chalten, strum some chords for me!
