GREECE
Scorching sun, gorgeous islands, antiquities, deep canyons. And in between, some of my favorite travel meals: hot pita bread and fresh hummus, baby squid, flaky pastries filled with melted cheese, baklava — all accompanied by crisp beer or ouzo.
Greece, bordered by Albania, North Macedonia, Bulgaria and Turkey, is far to the east in Europe, but considered the birthplace of western civilization. With up to 6,000 islands, Greece is a non-contiguous intercontinental country, with numerous islands close to the coast of Asia Minor. And with a coastline 8,500 miles long, a major sea-faring nation.
